In 2016, G3G became part of groupelephant.com, a largely employee-owned group of technology companies, non-profit organisations and impact investment businesses with a strong global presence. With operations across 22 countries, the Group has earned a strong reputation for successfully and cost-effectively addressing challenging technology-related issues for large, complex organisations. Its client portfolio includes some of the largest and most respected multinational corporations.

Rather than implementing a traditional corporate social responsibility programme and simply donating funds to charities, the Group is defined by a primary strategic imperative in which it goes ‘Beyond Corporate Purpose’ in its day-to-day activities. Working with ERP (Elephants, Rhino, People), we focus on the preservation of at-risk elephants and rhinos, and the economic uplift of rural people in areas adjacent to the threatened species.

One of ERP’s current campaigns is the installation of beehive fencing to protect farmers crops. Beehives have proved to be a socially and ecologically sensitive way of taking advantage of elephants’ natural avoidance behaviour to bees, a staggering 97% of elephants turned away from them during attempted raids.

Another positive is that beehive fencing not only prevents elephants from invading farm lands and private property, but at the same time provides local communities with a sound economic opportunity through the production of honey. This has really incentivised the farmers to maintain the fences.
